Declutter + Organize Tips
OHIO: only handle it once. Is there a spool of ribbon on the kitchen table? Don't move it to the counter when it's time to eat, as it'll likely remain there. Instead, pick it up and put in back where it belongs.
Donate. Sometimes it's hard to part with that second slow cooker because it still works. Donating it to a charitable organization and imaging it getter better use, and appreciation, than you can provide helps motivate.
Breakdown. Don't have one. Instead, break down the clutter by focusing on one area at a time: a drawer, the overburdened coat rack, the hall closet. Spending as little as 15 minutes a day on a focused effort can wield huge results.
One Room At a Time. Organizing room-by-room is more manageable: emotionally, physically and financially. When one room is done and everything is in its place, it'll motivate and empower you to move on to other rooms.
Better. Not Bigger. More space often becomes more space for more clutter. Instead of expanding, evaluate your home and the way you use it. Instead of a kitchen bump-out, maybe all you need is a bench with built-in storage.
Sustainability. "Going Green" is red hot, yet can feel daunting. It's less intimidating when you look at simple, everyday ways you can contribute. From using canvas bags at the store to choosing builders committed to eco-friendly building practices and materials, your actions and choices add up.
